About

The duo of Puerto Rican guitarist Hermelindo Ruiz and Spanish guitarist Samuel Diz makes its Cleveland debut. The program includes works by Hermelindo and another Puerto Rican composer, as well as two Spanish composers. Guitarist-composer Hermelindo Ruiz introduced himself to CCGS audiences virtually with his own compositions and arrangements commissioned by CCGS for a project called Creative Fusion, with accompanying performance videos, some recorded in collaboration with The Cleveland Orchestra. CCGS then commissioned him to write works for CCGS students for Composers in Residence. This is the first time CCGS has presented a Puerto Rican performer for the International Series, which is important because Puerto Ricans are the largest Latino community in Cleveland, and make up a substantial percentage of CCGS’s student population. The day before their public concert, the duo will work with CCGS students in two partner schools, and students will get free tickets to the concert.
