People For Palmer Park

Detroit, MI

GIG Fund

FY2024

About

People for Palmer Park presents free community events to foster healthy, thriving, inclusive, accessible and equitable opportunities. Its 10th Palmer Park Art Fair showcases some 100 artists, music, authors and creative innovators of all ages—most representing the local BIPOC community. Art Fair attendees—8000+ annually—also represent a diverse demographic. Joe Reilly Band & All Nations Dancers—4 locally based musicians and 5 dancers—will present free performances and interactive, educational programs to expand awareness of Native American music, art, culture, dance and history. Concerts and programs—such as a panel discussion and Q&A to meet the artists, dance workshop, and displays by Native Artists invited to participate free-of charge at the Art Fair—will celebrate our diverse roots and honor Indigenous Americans whose ancestors protected and lived in Detroit and Midwest. All Nations Dancers are Anishinaabe dancers led by Pow Wow dancer Ray Cadotte; Reilly is of Cherokee descent.
