The SPCM has developed long-term partnerships with schools and community centers serving Spanish speaking populations in Saint Paul, with programming designed and led by professional classical Hispanic musicians. In 2023 we launched Son de Cuerdas, “They Are Made of Strings”, a SPCM faculty ensemble of native and fluent Spanish speakers. Son de Cuerdas present concerts for all ages, featuring classical works by Latin American composers. The musicians engage with the audience in both Spanish and English.
The proposed project would bring Son de Cuerdas into communities in Greater Minnesota with significant Hispanic populations. All three of the selected communities are currently host sites for long-term SPCM school residencies, and are excited to offer this Spanish language programming. We propose 1-day residencies that would include an in-school performance; master class for selected students; and an evening community concert for families.
