About

The Vermillion Cultural Association is cohosting the inaugural South by South Dakota (SXSD) Music Festival with Vermillion’s new downtown venue, the AV Lounge. We have two goals for SXSD: spotlight the original work of regional musicians and create an accessible, diverse festival for our rural youth and community members. SXSD is planned as a week of music opportunities leading up to a day of live performances at the AV Lounge. Events will include a screening of the documentary Elephant 6 Recording Co. followed by a Q&A session with the filmmakers, busking performances downtown, a songwriters circle for aspiring artists to share and workshop with seasoned musicians, and discounted admission to the National Music Museum. Saturday, November 11, eight bands will perform. Music genres range from classic Americana to rap. Among the acts are two Indigenous groups, Prince-inspired Welby June and rock band Isanti. The headlining performer is yet to be announced but guaranteed to be a draw!
