Earlier this month, Arts Midwest received an $8 million unrestricted gift from MacKenzie Scott. This gift was part of her recent $2.73 billion contribution to 286 organizations working on the frontlines to make social progress in critical, community sectors such as interfaith support and collaboration, arts and culture, community engagement, and higher education.
We are grateful, honored, and humbled by this gift. Like many nonprofit organizations across our region, Arts Midwest has never had access to this kind of unrestricted support. We are committed to stewarding this resource with the deep care and thoughtfulness that it deserves.
In the coming months, as we consider how this support can best advance Midwestern creativity, we will center our values and our commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and access. We will look to build sustainable infrastructures that will support the incredible people, places, and creative organizations that compose the Midwest. And we will invite new systems, ideas, and solutions that lean into innovation, creativity, and partnership.
Thank you for being a part of the Arts Midwest community, for supporting our work over the past 35 years, and for your continued enthusiasm as we begin this next part of our journey, together. We look forward to connecting with you and sharing updates on our progress later this year.
