About

To celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Annual Gospel Concert, Dr. Robert T. Townsend, the conductor/producer for the concert, will conduct Carman Moore’s seminal work, “Gospel Fuse,” on February 18, 2023. Commissioned in 1975 by conductor Seiji Ozawa and the San Francisco Symphony, this classically-oriented work incorporates Gospel music and features the traditional call-and-response of Black church services. Mr. Moore, originally from Ohio and now living in New York, is still composing at age 86 and still travels internationally. The Phil extended an invitation to Mr. Moore to travel to Indianapolis to enhance this musical celebration through his participation in two educational and one public event.
