The goal of the program is to allow people who have limited access to theater and performance arts to experience live theater and participate in performances. The extended program allows artist-educators to work with groups to devise theater performances connecting classic theater with their own unique lives. Actors’ Theatre is committed to presenting live public theatre that is accessible, inclusive, and representative of our community. Summer productions in Schiller Park are free but present accessibility issues. Our goal is to “take the park to the people.” Relationships with National Church Residences, Sycamore Creek Senior Living, and others demonstrate our efforts to reach the underserved and people with disabilities with hopes to establish “Access Shakespeare” as an ongoing, sustainable component of our year-round multi-generational education and outreach activities.
