Arts Midwest funds would be used to cover a portion of the wage paid to the choreographer creating a gender-neutral contemporary ballet which centers around the re-imagination of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. Historically, as an art form, ballet is extremely gendered. This new take on a classic tale will dissolve the binary in the original narrative and ask audiences to dream about how our realities would be different if all races, genders, sexual orientations, and socioeconomic classes were on an equal playing field.This production will be performed by the 10-professional dancers of Ballet Co.Laboratory on April 5 – 7, 2024 at the Luminary Arts Center which is ADA accessible. Performances will include post-show talk-backs with the choreographer, dancers, and a Shakespearean historian. At our paid public performances in April, free tickets will be gifted to underserved communities. A free dance workshop with and performance will also be offered on March 29.
