Black Arts MKE’s Black Nativity by Langston Hughes production will be a complete overhaul from prior years with a new Director, and for the first time, an Artistic Director. Our version of Black Nativity is a testament to the timeless work of Langston Hughes-the story of the Nativity retold through a combination of poetry, dance & song from an African American perspective, with the twist of the story being set in Milwaukee & highlighting culturally relevant issues currently being faced in our community. Some highlights:
-Feature an all MKE-based, all Black cast
-Beyond the public shows, we expand our reach into the community, bringing the production to underserved audiences of color with mini shows (churches, community centers, etc)
-1,500 low-income students attend at NO COST special matinees & includes resource guides created & given to schools beforehand
-Paid internships for youth of color
-Talkbacks with cast to further engage with audience
-Community Night show-tickets 50% off
