Catfish Jazz Society

East Moline, IL

GIG Fund

FY2024

About

On 3-10-24, birthday of legendary Bix Beiderbecke and centennial of his Gennett recordings, professional touring band Josh Duffee’s Graystone Monarchs, will perform music (some original scores) from the Bix Era for the public at The Viking Club, an accessible venue in Moline, Il. Duffee is respected by Quint-City music fans for his knowledge of that era & the band for their masterful playing. Most of the audience will be older adults, many from surrounding rural areas with incomes only from social security, some of whom are disabled and veterans. During the concert Duffee, a scholar of the Bix Era, will discuss the historical and cultural significance of the songs and the original musicians who wrote and played the music. During the break and after the concert, there will be opportunities to meet and greet the musicians and a special opportunity for young, aspiring jazz musicians to ask questions of Duffee. Grant funds will be used towards artist fees, piano rental and promotion.
