This photo exhibition is a collaboration between City of Asylum/Detroit, The Magnum Foundation, Trinosophes Projects and the Haitian Network of Detroit. It showcases the work of Dieu-Nalio Chery, Pulitzer-nominated Haitian photojournalist and artist-in-exile at City of Asylum/Detroit. A regular contributor to the Associated Press, The New York Times, and the Washington Post, Chery’s work captures the resilience of a people navigating devastating earthquakes and floods, political corruption and gang violence some of whom have gone on to forge a new life in the American Midwest. This exhibit provides a rare glimpse into a diverse, multifaceted Haiti, from homeland to diaspora, contrasting life inside and outside the country while underscoring Detroit’s role as a vital sanctuary for artists whose work echoes within our community.
