In the studio, in the classroom, and on stage, Hip Hop and traditional Afro-Latin music and dance are used as tools for connection and healing. We are particularly committed to improving the lives of youth in low income neighborhoods. We see improvements in literacy as our students participate in song-writing, beat-making, audio engineering, and video production, as well as history lessons and discussions. We see increased confidence, self-esteem, and leadership through singing, rapping, dancing, and public speaking. We also see improvements in mental health and social skills by giving students opportunities to be physically active, to be vulnerable, to work together, and to be seen and heard. In the addition to workshops and lectures, the live performance of Hip Hop DNA, which features over 40 professional and student artists, is a fun, educational experience for the whole family that uplifts communities through a joyful celebration of cross-cultural understanding and togetherness.
