Bright Blocks’ allows regional artists from all walks of life to collaborate, encourage, and share their work with the public. The organization has given special attention to accepting a diverse roster of artists, including but not limited to representation by LGBTQIA+, BIPOC, and disability communities. As murals are live-painted in an open-air art studio, community members can meet with and engage the artists (Activity 1). With GIG Fund dollars, we hope to build out the mentorship component of this program. We aim to support individualized learning opportunities for students and emerging muralists to advance the visual arts in our city while being able to work alongside professional artists (Activity 2). Murals created as part of Bright Blocks are then placed in varied and accessible locations (parks, library, local businesses, etc.) throughout our city (Activity 3)
Grant funds will go toward artist fees primarily and costs associated with administering the program.
