The Garden Commons Community Mural Project is a collaborative art project that connects youth from marginalized communities with local Des Moines artist, Marissa Hernandez, to create a mural and art exhibit at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden. This project highlights the diversity within people, plants, and art, and uplifts the voices of youth typically underrepresented in the arts by incorporating their drawings in the design. An unveiling of the mural and art exhibit, along with an artist presentation will occur during the annual Earth Day celebration on April 22, 2023, reaching thousands of visitors.
