About

The BackWall: Art Uncuffed is a performance series that amplifies the talents, voices, & experiences of justice-impacted artists, while shifting public perceptions and dispelling myths about individuals involved in the system. TBW supports returning artists monetarily, showcases their work, and connects them to the local artistic community, while affecting public perceptions and providing a visible welcoming community for others returning from prison. With spoken word, music, storytelling, and dance, TBW creates events of artistic excellence while deepening the conversation around mass incarceration through the lens of the arts. We seek support to expand TBW into new environments—college campuses and correctional facilities. Support from the GIG Fund will allow us to expand and to commission new works from returning artists who will perform and participate in audience talkbacks and educational sessions.
