Heart of the Beast, HOBT

Minneapolis, MN

GIG Fund

FY2024

About

HOBT will contract with Heartwood, a trio of singers and instrumentalists (Sarina Partridge, Heidi Wilson, & Willy Clemetson) who create music inspired by the natural world. They will perform an original ‘singing story’ following a young woman who must find her way home through a dissonant world aided by songbirds and snails, crashing waves and ancient trees. Visual imagery will include a crankie, a scroll hand-cranked between two wooden spools, an art closely associated with puppetry. The trio will hold a sing-a-long free to all as well as a ticketed performance later that evening. Both activities will take place in HOBT’s Avalon Theater, an accessible facility that now houses a free Puppet Lending Library. HOBT will reach out especially to residents in our own Phillips neighborhood—one of the most diverse, undeserved communities in the state—for participation in both activities, through community partners such as our local library branch, schools, businesses, and other nearby groups.
