The lack of high quality educational opportunities for writers in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula is a challenge for aspiring and established writers alike. The 2024 Writer’s Symposium would address this issue by bringing together a slate of highly educated professional authors to share their craft and inspire future writers. The full day of workshops will start with a key note address, followed sessions to help develop writing skills in a variety of genres including children’s literature, poetry, and novel length works, self publish, getting started with audio books, and marketing tips for authors. In addition to these, a final track will offer the opportunity for participants to engage in a public reading or literary art project. The workshops will be available and open to the public at the historic Hessel School House, a handicap accessible building that provides year round arts and nature learning opportunities. Grant funding will allow us to keep the program affordable for attendees.
