BIPOC artists and art directors in residency will oversee and execute murals on 543 Indiana Avenue that serve as a resource for residents and targeted communities within the Indiana Avenue and Near Northwest geographic areas to express themselves through mural designs that encourage community addition. The murals will also inspire discussion on the topics they address: The Year of Education, our 2023 programming theme, and Juneteenth along with the wider topic of Black Excellence. Prior to each mural unveiling, a local BIPOC group will be invited to contribute to the piece and learn about the mural creation process and the topics it addresses.
