Shonda Buchanan will share her story of growing up as an African American in search of her Native American roots through her book, Black Indian. In addition to a poetry writing workshop and student-led interview of the author open to the community, the author will share traditional chants and its history. Local guests will have an opportunity to learn more about the historic dynamics of the African American and Native American relationship, in addition to celebrating Women’s History Month in recognition of Indigenous women they learn about. The partnership will culminate with a visit to an authentic Pow Wow and college tour of Central Michigan University, where the Pow Wow will be hosted.
