Pump House Regional Arts Center

La Crosse, WI

GIG Fund

FY2024

About

Pump House Regional Arts Center presents Artspire La Crosse, an annual celebration of community through the arts; a free, inclusive experience of visual, performing, and interactive arts. Sponsors, donors, and grantors make it possible for us to present the highest quality artists and yet keep the event entirely free to attend. We intend to hire professional artist Shoua Yang of Ceev Tseg Press to demonstrate Relief Printing at Artspire on June 8, 2024 and at a Pump House workshop in March 2024. At both events the public is invited to participate and make their own relief printed cotton tote bag to take home with them, free of charge. Print design will feature the rich Hmong heritage with a blend of American pop culture, portraying narratives mostly seen through a binary lens.

Inspired by Yang's The Latehomecomer to think about place both literally and metaphorically, we will provide a robust program including book discussions, writing prompts, public events, a writing retreat, and an open anthology call. The framework for thinking about place and identity holistically builds on Yang’s memoir’s structure, and the ways our place’s geology and topography affects ethology.
