Subtext Studio TC will collaborate with Poet Yon Yonni to create a new play based on immigration experiences of the Mexican Community. We will workshop, develop and produce three performances of the new play in Berwyn at Friendly’s Community Room. Post show discussions to engage the audience will occur after each performance. Subtext Studio will offer a pay-what-you-can ticket to remove any financial barrier to attending theater, as well as Spanish supertitles, Spanish language programs, and a performance in Spanish. This play will provide a live theatrical experience for audiences who may not attend theater due to language, cultural or financial barriers. As an emerging word artist, Yon Yonni is interested in reaching the people of the Berwyn/Cicero/Oak Park area who have cultural and immigration experiences similar to those he explores in his poetry. He became interested in the medium of theater while reading his poetry live for an experimental theater performance at Subtext Studio.
