The Wasteshed

Chicago, IL

GIG Fund

FY2024

About

The WasteShed seeks funding for an artist residency at our Chicago Humboldt Park site, a formerly vacant industrial building in a working-class majority-Latinx neighborhood. We will invite 2 artists in a 2-month residency in on-site studios working with materials from The WasteShed’s reuse center. The residency includes an exhibition (with 75% of sales to the artists) and public workshops. The cohort will seek artists whose participation in such programs have been limited by race or ethnicity, gender expression, educational attainment, income, or disability.

The WasteShed has a proven history of building a strong, diverse, accessible and welcoming creative community in; artists residencies will increase our offerings in support of working artists. Artists like the ones we serve often make their work in their kitchens; dedicated studio space is a luxury. This residency will help us connect our neighbors to opportunities for creative exploration and professional development.
