Theatre Y

Chicago, IL

GIG Fund

FY2022

About

We plan to partner with the renowned Berlin-based Nigerian photographer Akinbode Akinbiyi. This fall, Theatre Y will also be presenting the Emerald Necklace Camino Project, a performance seeking to create a city-promoted celebration for Chicagoans re-emerging out of COVID-19. On behalf of eleven communities hit hard by the virus and systemic racism, we have designed an ambulatory performance with the goal of forging new bonds through relationships. Over these twelve days of the Emerald Necklace Camino Project, Akinbode Akinbiyi will document what it is like for Theatre Y, community members, and audience members alike to explore the streets around them from this new perspective. Berlin-based Nigerian photographer Akinbode Akinbiyi will accompany Theatre Y along the Emerald Necklace, photo-documenting the pilgrimage, the city, and its people. His photographs, along with 940 hours of recorded conversations, a drone video installation, and video documentation by Worldview Solutions will memorialize this celebratory walk, archiving a joyous way forward into what we all hope will be a much more enabling future.
