Our proposed project is “Culture of Calm,” a holistic approach to physical and mental wellness. In our community we face a mountain of issues as youth, from food deserts to lack of mental health resources. Growing up in Detroit we know just how difficult it can be to find safe spaces for wellness. Our project hopes to bring together both the physical side of wellness and the mental health side of wellness by utilizing our indoor/ outdoor community space, La Esquina. We built La Esquina from three vacant lots and have transformed it into a space to show films, hold open mics, have work out sessions and music events all intended to provide youth with healthy alternatives to build community.
