Alana Horton (she/her) has been working at Arts Midwest since 2020 and is the Communications Officer. Before that, she oversaw communications at The Cedar Cultural Center, a nonprofit all-ages world music venue, and Bedlam Theater, a hybrid event space focused on radical works of theater.

At Arts Midwest, Alana leads storytelling, communications, marketing, and advocacy efforts to make the arts more visible, accessible, and impactful. Her work draws on over a decade of experience in arts communications, with expertise in writing, content strategy, editorial direction, digital storytelling, and public relations.

Alana’s contributions to Arts Midwest include overseeing the Creativity News Desk, a cultural reporting and storytelling initiative that highlights creativity across the Midwest, and strategic direction for the Ideas Hub, a digital library of resources for arts leaders. She also led Arts Midwest’s rebrand in December 2022, which included a new website, logo, and strategic framework.

Alana is currently serving as a Bloomberg Tech Fellow through the Bloomberg Philanthropies Digital Accelerator Program. In this role, she is working to expand Arts Midwest’s digital resources for the arts field, including tools for finding grants, jobs, and arts sector research.

A little more about Alana:

Alana’s favorite thing Arts Midwest does is commissioning new stories from Midwestern writers, photographers, videographers, and illustrators through the Creativity News Desk.

When Alana isn’t working, she can be found creating experimental vocal music as alone-a.
