Black Keys: The Evolution of the Black Classical Arts, is an original production, education and community conversation project curated by pianist & music sociologist, Joshua Thompson. This captivating origin story weaves together masterworks by composers of African descent with contemporary African dance by Kenyetta Dance Co. and powerhouse vocals by Ashlee Baskin, celebrating the historically significant impact and influence of Black composers. Excerpts from Black Keys will be included on a free field trip concert on November 18 for 2,400 Indianapolis students. Students will be invited to concert rehearsals and provided IN Dept. of Ed. informed curriculum guides. All students and children can obtain free concert tickets to all ICO concerts. Concert guest artists, ICO Music Director and Joshua will present a pre-concert conversation and greet audiences after the performance in the lobby. The concert will happen at the Schrott Center for the Arts, Butler University on April 20, 2024.
